It’s Day 3 of #ChallengePoverty Week
Social security is a lifebelt that keeps people’s heads above water. If it’s too small, households can be pulled under.
An adequate social security system should be there for all of us when we need it to protect us from poverty.
Right now, policies like the benefit cap, the two-child limit, the sanctions regime and the five-week wait for Universal Credit are tightening the grip of poverty on people’s lives.
We need to renew social security for the 21st century.
Governments can help #TurnTheTide and #ChallengePoverty by making sure benefits rise to provide adequate incomes that rise with living costs.
