Unlike most people receiving benefits, families and individuals affected by the benefit cap will not see their social security payments rise in line with inflation next year. This means more than 120,000 households will lose out. There is simply no moral justification for excluding capped households from benefit uprating; it is a decision that will serve only to lock them ever tighter into poverty. That’s why the Poverty Alliance will be writing to Chancellor Rishi Sunak urging him to increase the cap in line with inflation, at the same time as other benefits. Will you help us spread the word?
📢 The benefit cap is unjust. We’re calling on @RishiSunak to raise it in line with the % uprating of benefits. 📢
If he fails to act, households already blocked from getting their full social security entitlement will be pulled into deeper poverty. We can’t let that happen.
Even better than an uplift, the Chancellor could find the courage and compassion to #ScrapTheCap and #MeetTheNeed. That would immediately lift 50,000 children out of poverty and allow people to get the social security payments they are entitled to.
We appreciate your help!
